11 documentaries from DACH countries – including 7 German productions and co-productions – are competing for four prizes such as:
- MAX OPHÜLS PRIZE: BEST DOCUMENTARY FILM, endowed with 7,500 Euros, which is provided by the Max Ophüls Preis film festival
- MAX OPHÜLS PRIZE: BEST FILM MUSIC, endowed with 5,000 Euros, which is offered by Saarland Medien GmbH and endowed by the Strecker Foundation.
- MAX OPHÜLS PRIZE: PUBLICITY PRIZE DOCUMENTARY FILM is endowed with 5,000 Euros by Dillinger and Saarstahl. The prize is awarded to a film from the documentary film competition by a vote of the festival audience.
- MAX OPHÜLS PRIZE: FILM CRITICS' AWARD (non-endowed) is decided by a three-member jury made up of film critics' associations from Germany (BVMJ and VdFk), Austria (Austrian Film Critics' Guild) and Switzerland (SVFJ).
The Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis is considered the most important newcomer film festival in the German-speaking world, giving voice to and presenting the works of new talents from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The documentary competition is open to first, second and third works by young German-speaking directors with a length of 65 minutes or more. Only world premieres and German premieres will be considered.
