Three German documentaries in the programme XARAASI XANNE – CROSSING VOICES as well as OPERATION NAMIBIA and FASIA, ON DEFIANT WOMEN AN A TROUBADOURA are the basis of an event in English —with the German title— Dokumentierter Aktivismus & aktivistisches Filmen: Respondenzen von Onome Ekeh und Abdou-Rahime Diallo taking place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 11am at festivalzentrum fux eG.
To continue the discussion format that began in 2021 with the Panel on Colonial Reappraisal in Documentary Film, the festival invited Onome Ekeh and Abdou-Rahime Diallo for a discussion in this year's edition. The films XARAASI XANNE – CROSSING VOICES, OPERATION NAMIBIA and FASIA, ON DEFIANT WOMEN AN A TROUBADOURA form the basis of the discussion. Despite the diversity of political milieus, temporalities and narrative styles, the spirit of 20th century internationalism speaks from the films. The claim: all people can participate equally in the struggle against capitalism and exploitation. The discussion will focus on critical perspectives on self-empowered archive work and the image productions of subaltern positions. What were the promises of the internationalism of the time, how did it fall into disrepute and how can a transformation succeed?
