Synopsis
"Without commentary, the clips from Israeli military propaganda films form a colorful kaleidoscope that the filmmaker composes into a precisely choreographed ballet with elegiac, melodic music. Through the carefully selected shots - the image often pulled in or cropped - the original intention of the material recedes into the background, taking on a new meaning instead. Kamal Aljafari has not only given his experimental film the sonorous, half-poetic, half-scientific sounding title "Paradiso XXI, 108," for which he was inspired by a short story by Borges, he also alienates the images by coloring them in pastel. Nevertheless, they have lost nothing of their disturbing effect." [Jury Deutsche Filmkritik – German Film Critic Award 2022]
