Synopsis
Niki Pilic, The Legend, deals with the sport's change of status from amateur to professional, climaxing in 1973 with the boycott of Wimbledon following the unfair suspension of Niki Pilic who was not allowed to play. 81 of the top 100 members of the newly created Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) refused to compete including defending champion Stan Smith, John Newcombe and Arthur Ashe. This boycott was the founding act of ATP created in 1972 and serves as a unique example among all sports where players stood together to defend their rights and their sport. That episode changed forever the management of tennis and remains to this day something unparalleled among all sports.
