Synopsis
In 1929 Dziga Vertov shot the impressive Donbass Symphony: It shows churches being destructed, crosses and cupolas demolished, the old icons being burnt; a young sculptress is chiselling a bust of Lenin. The Donbass epitomizes the new reality: coal mines, steelmills, machines. It is the pride of the Soviet economy. Who knows that for half a century Donetsk was a British settlement called Hughesoffka?
