Synopsis
AFTER THE WEDDING (2013) tells the story of a woman I portrayed 17 years ago. (BEFORE THE WEDDING, Berlinale/Forum/1997). Some flashbacks to BEFORE THE WEDDING are part of AFTER THE WEDDING. 1997 I told the story of Berlin, a young Turkish woman, who was named after her birthplace Berlin. She was living together with her parents, her brother, two sisters and worked as a receiptionist of a hospital in Berlin-Kreuzberg, but dreaming of a career as a stewardess. “Now she is ripe for marriage”, said her father, who expected the marriage to be with a Turkish alawit. But Berlin wanted "to marry a German or a man I really love.” 2012 I started the sequel to the 1997 version. Berlin is now 40 years old, living together with her son Cem, waiting to be divorced, still working in the hospital, still dreaming of another job, looking for another man and wishing for a second child. Just as happened 17 years ago, her plans are heatedly discussed by her parents, siblings and friends. But after the divorce Berlin would like to finally live the way she wants.
