Synopsis
Animatics are a creative way of telling stories. Especially when historical footage does not survive, or when a reenactment would be too costly.Animatics are used for commercials in order to have a cheap way of pre-visualising a scene. They are a combination of animation and splitting an image into different layers: foreground (e.g. people), middle ground (e.g. buildings and trees), and background (e.g. mountains, sky, etc.). When these layers are moved towards one another, changes occur in lighting and focus. Dead images thus acquire liveliness and three-dimensionality. The two-dimensional animations are supported by a sound track.
