Synopsis
“Were you at Monday’s demo?” Since January 2009, that’s been the question of all questions. Clever, inquisitive, open and creative, Stuttgart’s citizens have made themselves heard: the old and the young, whether manager, artist, housewife or shop assistant.
Lisa Sperling and Florian Kläger, two young filmmakers, depict the development of one of the largest citizens’ initiative in years in their debut documentary Stuttgart 21 - Denk mal! It’s no longer just about a new train station, but also about the movement and its many faces. The film wants to show that something has evolved in Stuttgart: a form of protest that is new to the city and all of Germany.
Stuttgart 21 – Denk mal! will be coming to the Berlinale straight from the cutting room for its world premiere in Perspektive Deutsches Kino: on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 4:30 pm in Cinemaxx 3 at Potsdamer Platz.
“It’s great we’ll be able to show the work of two young film students, who have positioned themselves both politically and cinematically, in Perspektive Deutsches Kino, our series for up-and-coming filmmakers,” comments Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick.
"At the very end, when all the slots were already filled, I invited a film about the protest movement against the Stuttgart 21 train station to take part in the Perspektive as a special guest contribution. The film is still a work in progress, but will be finished in time for the Berlinale. I am glad to be able to offer this film a forum at the festival and invite everyone to take part in the discussion. (Linda Söffker, Berlinale / Perspektive German Cinema)
