Synopsis
Socio-political overview, starting from a Christmas fair in Berlin’s low-income district of Neukoelln. The booths are maintained by “social service providers”. We show their work. And we show their unemployed, drug-addicted, mentally ill, or educationally handicaped “clients”. It’s also the questions concerning immigration that matter a lot in the film. Like in Pieter Bruegel’s paintings we wanted to develop a puzzling picture showing the German situation during the financial crises in fall 2008.The Christmas topic helps to get the discussion beyond single everyday-life experience, to make the spiritual and socio-political background of today’s situation perceptible – not in the form of another pessimistic picture of a metropolitan low-income neighbourhood, more like a polyphonic oratorio, giving evidence of the upright human cooperation in times of socio-political tightenings.
