Up to now the fishery agreement between the EU and Morocco has made it possible for the Spanish fleet to fish Moroccan waters dry, a region which still had one of the highest fish populations in the world in the 1980s. In the meantime Morocco has undertaken great efforts to build up its own fishing industry. Now, for example, the state is setting up new fishing villages with training centres.
