Bruder Jakob

Germany 2016, 92 min
by Elí Roland Sachs

Jakob is my dear brother. He used to love to party, make music and let himself drift through life in Berlin. Then six years ago, he suddenly became a Muslim. He broke off contact with his old friends and his old ways. Now as a Salafist, every question has an answer in the rules of a fundamental Islam.By filming him, I go in search of our lost bond of brotherly love and suddenly find myself on a journey with him, that goes beyond a religious exploration.

ATEMWEGE

Germany 2013, 74 min
by Elí Roland Sachs

A young man takes a deep breath in and out again, then he swallows air to fill his lungs. Meditation and therapy, exercises for breath through breath control, artificial lungs and the voluntary transition boundary to the edge of unconsciousness. From the first to the last breath, from the martial artist to the boys’ choir: as simple and self-evident breathing seems at first glance, so complex and effective it is when we look closer. The film BREATH lives from the recent discovery of an everyday action that every person exercises every day a thousand times.
