UNITED BUDDY BEARS on World Tour

by Dagmar Scheibert

Synopsis

The UNITED BUDDY BEARS’ principle of understanding and trusting each other led 125 of them to undertake an unusual journey. Each of the artistically painted polyester furs represents a member state of the United Nations. All together standing in a circle - 'paw in paw' – they pay tribute to the cultural diversity of our world. In Berlin they started their world tour in winter 2003, no difficulties could stop them. Travelling by ship, trucks, and even by plane for one special late-comer, they see Austria, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Tokyo, Seoul and Sydney, meeting old friends like Jackie Chan and making new friendship worldwide as it was intended by their creators. They anticipate the spirit of the Soccer World Cup 2006, before returning to Berlin. Before taking off again some of them were sold at auction in aid of UNICEF and local organizations helping children in need.
