    Synopsis

Kallawaya - Traditional Medicine in the Andes - is a 26-minute documentary about Walter Alvarez, a Kallawaya healer who combines the traditional medicine of his Andean ancestors with western medicine. Above all, Walter is an intriguing and optimistic character. As a member of the Bolivian Parliament he has fought for the recognition of traditional medicine. He is a multi-faceted character who moves without problems between his role as a traditional Kallawaya healer in remote highland villages and urban life in the busy capital of Bolivia. There he runs radio and television shows on traditional medicine. He strongly believes that traditional Kallawaya medicine with its focus on preventing illnes through a healthy and balanced diet holds great potential for poor people to lead a better life.
