    Synopsis

Geamăna village, once home to 1000 people, lies buried beneath a copper mine’s toxic waste. Only the church spire rises from the poisoned lake.
Valeria lives alone with her dog and an ageing cow in what once was the village of Geamăna. Her life seems tranquil, but just beyond her garden gate lies a rising lake of industrial sludge that will eventually bury her house.

In the 1970s the government of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu decided to open a copper mine above the village, and ever since the mine’s toxic runoff has been filling the valley. Powerless to stop it, Valeria must begin to say goodbye to the land she grew up on. [Sheffield DocFest]
