Synopsis
O’Reilly’s Irish Pub in Stuttgart, Germany is a central meeting point for international expats, such as Colette from Scotland and Joe from England.
Colette, having moved to Germany to care for her father, finds comfort and her own space in the pub, while Joe takes stock on his ten year stay.
With the passing of her father, Colette finds herself without purpose, affecting her life in and outside the pub whilst searching for consistent support and comfort within the community in a gradually changing city.
Director's Comment:
With my debut film ‚Remainers‘, I ended up with a rather intimate, raw portrayal of the O’Reilly’s Irish Pub community, which I have been a part of myself for over a decade and which was an integral aspect of my home in Stuttgart, Germany.
My participants knew me, trusted me, and I was allowed to explore the themes of home, belonging and settling within the context of a familiar immigrant/expat group and for myself, a dual-national citizen.
‚Remainers‘ can be a case study for various international communities in Europe with our pub being one of them.
