Synopsis
Eckart Witzigmann has left his mark on German and Austrian haute cuisine like no one before him. Every top German chef has learned under his tutelage, and the rich and famous have all dined at his legendary restaurant "Aubergine." The film follows him to Munich, Salzburg and Alsace and retraces the most significant moments in his life and his extraordinary career. With the help of his family, friends and students, Witzigmann tells how he revolutionized German cuisine and became one of the best chefs in the world. He also speaks with unprecedented candour about his cocaine addiction,
which nearly cost him his career.
In 1993 he was arrested for possession of cocaine and sentenced to two years on probation. He also lost his restaurant license. After many trying years, he has now been publicly rehabilitated, and is considered "the chef" among German chefs. He consults gourmet restaurants, is a best-selling author of cookbooks, a university lecturer and president of the German Culinary Academy.
