"Saaraba" nennen sie in Westafrika das verheissene Land - Europa. Unser Filmprojekt verfolgt über fast ein Jahrzehnt Aladji und Souley, zwei Brüder von einer kleinen Fischerinsel im Atlantik vor der Küste Westafrikas.Der ältere Aladji schaffte es als Bootsflüchtling bis in die Gemüseplantagen Spaniens und blieb illegal bis heute. Der jüngere Bruder Souley träumt von Europa und macht sich auf den Weg zu seinem Bruder.Im Zentrum dieser Chronik stehen ihre Träume und Erfahrungen um Europa und ihre Geldpost zu ihrer Familie in die Heimat. Ihre Wege waren und sind illegal. Die Träume und Wünsche wurden oftmals enttäuscht. Die Rückkehr in Geld und Ehren möglich – doch unwahrscheinlich. Dennoch wurde auf der Heimatinsel Niodor die Flucht nach Europa zum Initiationsritus für die heranwachsenden Männer. Schon der Vater der beiden Brüder lebte zwei Jahrzehnte als Gastarbeiter in Frankreich. Er kehrte zurück auf die Heimatinsel bescheiden wie ein kleiner König.Heute haben es die Söhne schwerer. Sie schweigen vom Elend und die Familie daheim bleibt stolz auf die Beiden Illegalen in der fernen Festung genannt "Saaraba". Der Film war seit 2008 in Zusammenarbeit von PETER HELLER (D) , SALIOU SARR (Senegal) und BARNEY RUEBE (Spanien/ D) entstanden.
