ALIAS erzählt die bewegende Geschichte eines Mannes, der im scheinbaren Idyll einer streng religiösen, deutschen Familie aufgewachsen ist. Nie hat er bewusst wahrgenommen, dass sich sein Aussehen nicht nur von dem seiner Brüder unterscheidet, sondern auch ganz untypisch für einen Deutschen ist. Mit Anfang zwanzig enthüllt sein Vater ihm in einem Streit die angebliche Wahrheit über seine Herkunft. Die Familie entpuppt sich als scheinheiliges System, die Mitglieder als stille Mitwisser wohlbehüteter Geheimnisse. Erst Jahre später findet der Protagonist den Mut nach Castrop-Rauxel, an den Ort seiner Kindheit, zurückzukehren, mit den Familienangehörigen zu sprechen, um schließlich in den Libanon zu reisen, wo er auf einen vertraut aussehenden Fremden trifft.
