In February 2010 the Berlin International Film Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. The story of the festival is strongly linked to the history of Berlin in the last six decades: from the bombed city during the war over the divided city to Germany’s capitol today.
28 personalities of international and national cinema have been interviewed by Hans-Christoph Blumenberg and Alfred Holighaus for TRACE OF THE BEARS: Stars like Tilda Swinton, Claudia Cardinale and John Hurt, acclaimed directors like Andrzej Wajda and Agnes Varda or Costa-Gavras and Ang Lee and also Tom Tykwer and Michael Winterbottom. All of them contribute with their very own Berlinale memories.
With plenty of rare archive material the film reveals the story behind the curtains of the festival, from the early years of Berlin in ruins until today's mega-festival at Potsdamer Platz.
